The Peoples Republic of China government released the Silver Panda Bear bullion coin a few months ago. The front design features two baby panda bears playing and eating bamboo. The reverse features a famous Chinese temple.

Already, these panda coins are becoming scarce in the US coin market. Many US coin wholesalers are out of them.

Why the coin scarcity?

Discussions with coin suppliers indicates that the Chinese mint is not shipping any more (right now). Some speculate that the Chinese mint has made all that they want to produce. Others think they have reached a maximum (unannounced) mintage for the year. Still others think it has to do with the banking crises and problems that mints are having obtaining coin blanks.
